The Hopkins family were well known farmers around the Balcatta area, who also had a strong connection with the North Beach community.
Vera Schultz recalls "I started going out to North Beach about 1922-23 by horse drawn lorry on Saturday afternoons, coming home Sunday afternoons. The lorry belonged to Mr Hopkins who had a weekend house there. We had to travel along a single lane road and had to pull to one side to allow another vehicle to pass."
