The construction demands and maintenance of roads alongside the tram tracks presented an expensive and continuance problem for the Perth Road Board. The weight and movement of the tram caused severe disturbance to the surfacing of the road. In the 1930s the tramways were replaced with more pliable alternatives; trolley buses and omnibuses were used instead to meet the daily transport needs of the people.
