ContributorCommunity HistoryDescriptionThe WA Industrial School for the Blind, also known as the Victoria Institute and Industrial School for the Blind, and the West Australian Institute and Industrial School for the Blind was established in 1895 on Central Avenue in Maylands before The Western Australian Industrial School for the Blind was relocated on a large block running between Whatley Crescent and Guildford Road, Maylands, Western Australia. The Victoria Institute and Industrial school for the blind opened on Central Avenue, Maylands in 1900. The aim of the school was to enable deserving blind persons to receive instruction and alleviate the misfortune of their affliction and educate them in literary and technical work to encourage them to become self-supporting.
