The below story was entered with this photograph into the 2018 History and Heritage Awards.
"This photo tells the story of my German grandparents Johannes and Bertha Petersen who moved to Western Australian in 1927 soon after they wed. They lived on a remote property where they remained instead of being interned during the Second World War. They leased these Scarborough tea rooms in circa 1950. What an amazing change this must have been after living in tents in the remote bush. My parents had just met and helped out, waitressing and serving ice creams on the weekends."
