ContributorCommunity HistoryDescriptionOn 19th July 1947, a drowning tragedy occurred when Sister Mary Chrysostom was swept out to sea near this spot. Fred Floyd was with his son Don, and a friend who were going fishing. They were hailed down by a distressed nun and Fred immediately answered the call. Although he did reach her a large wave caused him to lose hold of her. Fred eventually succumbed to the strong undertow, and his body was later washed ashore. Mary's body was found shortly after. This memorial was placed on the beach and later removed. It was in the safe keeping of the Trigg Surf Lifesaving club for some time and was later relocated to its current position.
