Dianella Plaza Shopping Center exhibition of photos by WA Camera Club in 1988

This photograph was submitted as part of the 2020 History and Heritage Awards with the following text:

The Western Australian Camera Club was founded in 1917. Most of the pioneering members were associated with the fledgling University of Western Australia. The
club met there for many of its early years. Other camera clubs didn't come along until the 1960s and beyond. The State boasts more than 40 camera clubs today.

By the 1980s the WACC took up home in the City of Stirling although its members hailed from all over. During that decade the club marked its 70th anniversary, staging
an exhibition of members' photographs the following year at the Dianella Plaza shopping centre. The subjects ranged from portraiture to wildlife to sporting action,
highlighting the diversity of talents and interests in the ranks of the club. While mono and colour prints featured prominently, the club also screened slides in a side venue.
Two leading members, Eric Orriss and Bob Johnson, who is still alive, helped mount the display.

WACC meets twice monthly at the Tuart Hill Community Centre where it celebrated its centenary three years ago with the enthusiastic and generous support of the City
of Stirling.
