John Wall Hardey, along with his brother Joseph, charted the Tranby and arrived at Swan River in 1830. They brought along with them a number of indentured convicts. In 1836 the Hardey's built a permanent home known as the Tranby House in Maylands and it stands today as one of the historical monuments of the state.
