Ethereal Welcome Hand by Kylie Graham

This large-scale hand represents the casting of sand, a respectful gesture from Whadjuk peoples to all people, visitors and friends. It informs residents and visitors alike that they are on traditional Whadjuk Noongar Country. It asks that visitors have respect by throwing a handful of sand into the water as a welcome to the spirits, ancestors and Waugyl in the waterways. On the back of the hand’s wrist, the artist designed a dolphin and fish. Dolphins would drive the fish inland for the Noongar to feed their families. At night, LEDs in the sculpture make the sand glow yellow.
