New Life New Beginning by Norma MacDonald

This artwork is part of a series created by Norma MacDonald between 2007 and 2009 when she spent a lot of time with her elderly mother embracing her Aboriginality and learning all she could about her personal history and the history of her people. The two works - 'New Life New Beginning' and 'Lost Childhood' - are related to the stories of Norma's mother Rose who was separated from her sister at a very young age. The image of a rose with an umbilical cord appears throughout the series to symbolise her mother as a source of nurture.
