The legacy of the North Suburban Historical Society

The North Suburban Historical Society formed in the 1970s under the leadership of Linda Newell as Founding President. The mission statement was

"To encourage research, study and writing of local and State history. To preserve historical data for future generations; to collect, display and preserve artifacts for the Mount Flora Regional Museum, Elvire Street, Waterman, and to be responsible for management of the facility."

The NSHS worked tirelessly as a volunteer run, not for profit organisation for many decades and were successful in the adaptive reuse of the North Beach water tank into a dedicated museum space in 1988. A succession plan was formed in the early 2000's, and the collection and museum management was transferred to the care of the City of Stirling.
