Jamie was a well known and loved community member who contributed greatly to the City of Stirling through volunteering for several sporting and social organisations. Jamie Schuster worked for Rio Tinto in a fly in and out capacity and was a workplace mentor for his colleagues being especially focused on mental health awareness. He was proactively involved in sport and fitness, and voluntarily ran men’s health and wellness workshops often at the City of Stirling coastal reserve locations.
Jamie was also motivated to bridge cultural divides, being from a Maori background, and became highly involved in the Haka for Life movement and men’s empowerment. Jamie Schuster initiated the haka and corroboree inclusion at the ANZAC day ceremonies and developed strong relationships and connections cross culturally with local Noongar groups. Jamie was awarded special recognition at a Government House event for this work.
