Peters By The Sea

Peter Kakulas, the proprietor of Peter's Greengrocers in Murray Street, Perth was holidaying at Scarborough Beach in 1937 when he started a conversation with a couple of locals. They owned the house on a large block between West Coast Highway and the Esplanade and were looking to sell. Peter bought the house and in 1951 building was started for Peters By The Sea. The shop had a milk bar section in which Peter's daughter Kathleen worked, while her three brothers served pies, hamburgers and fish and chips.

The Kakulas family are no longer involved in the daily operation of the shop but it remains largely unchanged and is a popular venue for beachside meals and drinks.
