ContributorCommunity HistoryDescriptionKarrinyup Library opened its doors in 1974 using the Automated Library System. The A.L.S used a magnetic card with dots that equalled numbers and generated automated reports. The Karrinyup Library has been groundbreaking in implementing technology and programs and has demonstrated ‘many firsts’ including being the first library to employ a Young Adult Librarian, two Library Technicians and other specialised Librarians – such as Children’s and Reference Librarians.
Cecil Florey left Karrinyup Library in 1978, taking up a position at the State Library and Kay Poustie became the Manager, bringing her own dynamic style.Creator organisationCity of StirlingDate created1985Historical details

A new computer system replaced the old A.L.S in 1985, Stowe Book System, later called Stirling’s Easy Automated Library System (SEALS). This system included the Circulation and Catalogue and in time other modules were added. This replaced the card to catalogue system. Stirling was the first Council to install the catalogue module.

Margaret Le Saux, Technical Services Librarian, joined Karrinyup Library in the 1980’s and recalls seeing many changes in Library technology over her 46 years of service, to now include the many E-services that engage Karrinyup’s current 22,000 plus members.

Karrinyup library had the highest number of loans in the state, until the establishment of Joondalup library
