Karrinyup Library

The Karrinyup library opened in September 1974 with 40,000 books (comprised of 25,000 Stirling stock and 15,000 Library Board stock). This stock count was unheard of as the Library Board provided only up to 20,000 books to a new library. 

It was the first library in Australia to install a computer system, the Automated Library Systems (ALS), for circulation control. 

It was also the first library to employ a Young Adult Librarian and later employed two Library Technicians and other specialised librarians – Children’s and Reference librarians.

Karrinyup library had the highest number of loans in the state, until the establishment of Joondalup library (1997).
