Scarborough Hotel

Between 1933 and 1938 several applications were lodged with the hotel licensing court requesting permission to build a hotel at Scarborough, but were all denied. On 26 August, 1938 a licence was finally granted and the construction of the hotel began shortly after. The architect Mr W.G. Bennett designed the building with two floors. The ground floor had an island public bar, saloon bar, double and private lounge, dining room, a hall, office, kitchen, and store room. The first floor had 8 double bedrooms, 16 single bedrooms, 6 staff bedrooms, 2 dressing rooms, bathroom, laundry, and an ironing room. In October 1939 the hotel opened its doors for the first time. Located on the corner of Manning Street and West Coast Highway the hotel was a well-known drinking and entertainment place for many locals and beach goers, as well as a popular holiday destination. 

The Scarborough Hotel was purchased by the Bond Corporation in 1984. It was officially closed on the 20th October 1985 and was demolished soon after. 

An apartment building named Observation Rise was built in 1996 is now located on the site.
