Star Swamp

Star Swamp Bushland Reserve hosts an informative 1.4km Heritage Trail that runs from the Henderson Environmental Centre in the south, to Mary Street in the North. The reserve also provides countless opportunities for birdwatching and to see native wildflowers, orchids, and quenda.

The Hamersley family held a large land grant that included Star Swamp, which was later used as a watering place for cattle and camels travelling the North Stock Route. In November 1896, Deputy Governor John Forrest proclaimed the area, which was then referred to as the "Hamersley's North Beach Paddocks", as a camel quarantine station:

Now therefore I, the said Governor's Deputy, in exercise of the powers in me vested as aforesaid, with the advice of the Executive Council, do hereby set apart, as a Quarantine Station for camels arriving by sea at Fremantle, for the purposes of the said Act, the locality known as "Hamersley's North Beach Paddocks," consisting of S.O.L. 7/1392, Pastoral Lease 66/293, Locations 548, 564, 1155, with Reserve No. 2445 adjoining.

Star Swamp Bushland Reserve is located on Marmion Avenue, North Beach. Star Swamp is located within the 96 hectare Class-A reserve of Star Swamp Bushland Reserve.
