The Ariel Tourist Trophy was organised by the Ariel Motor Cycle Club and the Western Australian Motor Cycle Association (WAMCA) prior to World War Two. This annual event was held on the streets of North Beach and Watermans Bay. Participants completed 25 laps of the 2.2 mile circuit, starting on The Esplanade (Now West Coast Drive) between Mary and Ada Street, turning down Mary Street, Flora Terrence, Malcom Street, George Street, Sorrento Street then up West Coast Drive and back to the starting line. The official opening day was the 22nd of September 1934. It attracted 16 competitors in the championship category but of those 16 only 7 completed the race. This race was the first of its kind to be held in the state and the third held in Australia. After the event's success in 1934, the participation increased in 1935 with the new classes added, such as the junior and handicap categories.
