Flora Frances Hamersley

Flora Frances North (nee Hamersley) was the daughter of Edward Hamersley and Anne Louise Hamersley. The family had a holiday home called the Castle at North Beach.  As an adult, she lived in Cottesloe and was the president of the Cottesloe branch of the Red Cross Society during World War I. Flora Terrace and Mount Flora in Watermans Bay are named after her. She was married to Frederic Dudley North, who was, at one time, the Mayor of Cottesloe. In 1901 she rescued a boy from drowning at Cottesloe Beach. Her son, Mr C North, was the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
