Anne Louise Hamersley

Anne Louise Hamersley (nee Corneles) was married to Edward Hamersley. She was French, and they met in Paris, and married around 1834. This marriage was not deemed legal in England, so they married a second time in England in 1836, and their first two children were baptised at the same time. Anne was known as Elvire because her husband Edward said her small stature reminded him of an elf, and she was known as Elvire after that time. She was the mother of eight children: Edward, Charles, Hugh, Samuel Richard, Margaret Elvire, Bevan, George and Flora Frances. She and Edward had many properties around the Perth area, in the southwest and around the Geraldton area and a holiday home called the Castle at North Beach.
