Maurice Edgar Hamer

Mr. Maurice Edgar Hamer was born in 1901 in Perth, Western Australia. He married Leta Watson Jones in Perth in 1940.

He served on the Perth Road Board (the predecessor of the City of Stirling) from 1937 to 1961, including three years as Chairman (1953-1956). He also chaired the Metropolitan Region Planning Authority (1960-1972) and the Metropolitan Water Supply, Sewerage, and Drainage Board.

Mr. Hamer was honoured with the title of 'Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire' (OBE) for his services to the community. On August 25, 1972, he became the first resident of the City of Stirling to be conferred the title of Honorary Freeman.

Mr. Hamer passed away on August 4, 1989, in Perth, Western Australia.

The Hamer Park Reserve in Mount Lawley was named in honour of his family.
