Nookenburra plinth

ContributorCommunity HistoryDescriptionThe Nookenburra Plinth was once located in the carpark of the Nookenburra Hotel, Innaloo. In 1998, with concerns about its security, the plaques and the plinth were removed. In 1988 when the Mount Flora Museum was opened the plinth was put on display, where it has been ever since. The four bronze plaques are not attached to the plinth but display alongside. The Nookenburra plinth is a springer stone that has come from the facade of the now demolished AMP Building that stood on the corner of William Street and St George's Terrace in Perth. The AMP Chambers was built in 1915 and stood until 1972. Made of Donnybrook stone, there is an association with builder Simon Bremner Alexander, who owned a quarry. George Geneff was a local market gardener in Osborne Park who also had a quarry in Balcatta supplying limestone for buildings such as Winthrop Hall and Lake Karrinyup Country Club. Geneff built the Nookenburra Hotel and acquired the stone from the demolished AMP building, that was on display in the carpark for many years. George Geneff contributed greatly to the City of Stirling and surrounding areas through philanthropy and was elected as Osborne Park's representative on the Road Board.
