Journeys by Arif Satar and Audrey Fernandes-Satar

Artist Audrey Fernandes Satar and Arif Satar worked with members of the community to develop this artwork starting with the phrase 'To walk a mile in someone else's shoes' as a basis for looking at participant's different cultural backgrounds. Journeys - a crossing, a space in-translation, a passage that has brought us here – leading us home. A series of community workshops explored the notion of identity through the design of ‘cultural’ or ‘story’ shoes. Shoes are not only items of fashion defining at times what is the trend, the style, the ‘cool’ or alternative - the concept of shoes is explored as a definition of self, of one’s identity. Shoes also tell a story of where we have been, and where we are now. The completed artwork consists of a series of stainless steel panels integrated within the fascias of the amphitheatre of the Mirrabooka Town Square.
